I really loved this place. We went there for a lengthy "business lunch" and ended up staying for dinner too.

I had the steak which was beautifully presented and it was cooked to perfection. My client had the suckling pig, and despite professional etiquette, I had to ask for a taste! It was well worth the odd look I got from him!

The service was friendly, but not pushy. It did lack a bit of atmosphere at the start of the night, but I suppose that happens in all restaurants until the diners start appearing.

The desserts were some of the best I've had in ages - try the banana confit!

I must mention, that despite James' post below, the steak is not a scam. It clearly states on the menu that the price is per 500g. I employed common sense and asked the waiter how much mine weighed (which was 765g) before buying.

Well worth the walk from Canary Wharf

I've just eaten at El Faro. In almost all respects it was a great restaurant. And then we were scammed. This is how they do it. The T-Bone steak is listed at £16.95, however, it says £16.95 "per" 500g. When you order it, they show the steak to you and even recommend that you share it with your partner. It seems a fantastic deal. However, when the bill arrives, it turns out the steak that you ordered weighed in at 850 grams. At the price of £16.95 per 500 grams this then costs £28.83. This is a classic scam because when you work out the maths it makes sense. They quoted 16.95 "per 500g", so surely you didn't read it right. Only everthing on the menu and everything on most menu's has the price as you read it. It doesn't require you multiply the figure by the amount you recieve. It is much like if they quoted chips at "£5" and added a "per chip" in the small print. I'm not even that angry about it, I just thought I'd warn anyone who did decide to eat the T-Bone that this is what El Faro will do to you.

As a local resident, I have now eaten at El Faro on more than 20 occasions since it opened last year and I continue to marvel at the quality of the food that is served up each time. I love the fact that the kitchen will not compromise on quality and would rather state that something is 'off menu' than serve a substandard dish. The jamón de Jabugo is exquisite as are the wonderful pork belly cubes (my favourite!). The lobster paella is worth every single minute of the time that it takes to cook this laborious dish. The setting of the restaurant is fabulous and I equally love either sitting on the terrace for a leisurely lunch whilst sipping one of the great selection of wines or sitting inside on cooler evenings in the elegant minimalist décor! On a final note I would like to praise the manager and the staff at the restaurant who continuously give myself and my guests a five star service on each visit - well done and long may I continue to benefit from your great service!!!

having eaten in el faro 5 times now i still find it difficult to fault the place. food is wonderful. better really than i was lucky enough to have whilst living in spain. the quality and freshness of food speaks volumes of the place. the family spirit of the staff shows how proud they are to provide food of this calibre and authenticity. only real complaint is the price, but as my missus points out, you get what you pay for, and its very true, i wouldnt compromise the quality of the menu just to save a few quid.

Really impressed with this out of the way authentic spanish restaurant. Cinco Jotas spanish ham, perfectly cook tortilla, crispy pan tomate. The mains are also very tasty. I tried the entrecot with patas bravas and a glass of house red (very respectible for a house) and it all came in at a very reasonable price. The terrace overlooking the harbour is also a treat on a warm summers evening.
