I went with a friend for a pre-theatre meal. From the beginning the staff welcomed us with a smile and seated us straight away even though we were early. The waiting staff and bar staff were very patient, polite and attentive. We had delicious fishcakes served with rocket for starters and a traditional burger with fries and coleslaw as a main. Drinks weren't included in our meal deal, but we still tried a cocktail each - vanilla & peach martini and berrylicious - both really yummy! Would definitely go back again :-). I would like to thank all of the staff for making it such a pleasant experience.

This restaurant has a lovely decor with brilliant service from friendly and helpful staff. The menu and wine list were both excellent and we were very pleased with our meals. I had the honey lime prawns as a starter and followed with the prime fillet steak which was cooked to perfection. As a final note, the cocktails were also noteworthy.

Smollensky's leaves a bad taste in the mouth!

Having visited the restaurant after the refit I returned there with a group of friends for some birthday drinks, sadly my second visit overshadowed what had previously been a good experience.

I can recommend the restaurant, very good food and quite good value for money with good service which is probably why it's the complete opposite when it comes to the bar!

Since my first visit they have moved the bands from the stage, squeezed in more diners instead and tucked the singers in the corner by the stairs. Such a shame as whilst eating you had a great view of the stage which I'm sure was the original idea! This made it one of the better venues to eat and drink at whilst watching and listening to some great acts, but now it's just run of the mill.

Back to the over priced bar snacks and poor service, we ordered fish cakes along with some other snacks. When the food turned up we had to laugh at the size of the portions, even our sulky waitress said they were small. 4 fish cakes turned up at a price per cake of 2 and they were no bigger than a 2 coin at that!! We also ordered some prawns and chicken which including a service charge came to a grand total of 20!

A friend arrived and ordered a bowl of chips, after 20 minutes they hadn't turned up so he went over and asked the waitress where they were. She then insinuated that he was lying and hadn't actually ordered chips in the first place!!

My advice, stick to the restaurant and avoid the bar and it's staff at all costs!

We won't be returning.
