I recently organised a hen party in one of the private karaoke rooms at Imperial China. I was a little nervous having read some not great reviews. But having had a brilliant time I wanted to put a good review up to counteract the less positive ones!

The food was fantastic. Some of the best chinese food I've ever had. The vegetarian and the one with food allergies (there is always one!) were very well looked after. Two less people turned up on the night and we were not charged for them (even though the small print says you will be). There was so much food and we did feel bad that so much of it went to waste. The house wine was very reasonable - 12.90 a bottle and was very drinkable. They left all the empty bottles on a side table - I guess this was in case anyone wanted to question the bill at the end but we felt no need (but I thought this was good). The staff and service were amazing. Very attentive and polite. They were a little quick clearing the plates away and ushering us out at end of the night. The place was very clean and very plush. The karaoke was great - very up-to-date and easy to use. All the other rooms seemed to be having a good a time as us. I (along with all the 25 strong hen party) were very impressed and no one had a bad thing to say about it. We had the 27.50 set menu and drank A LOT for 4 hours. The final bill worked out at 50 a head which we all thought was very reasonable.

I would heartily recommend this restaurant for any sort of party for the private rooms. And having sampled the food, I would say the a la carte menu must be great and will certainly be returning for a meal.

Outstanding: the best Chinese meal I have ever eaten bar none.  Great chicken, great pork, great everything.  It even looks better than the rest. Just poke your head down the entrance alley and see for yourself.

Staff were friendly and the food arrived quickly.  This is Chinese cuisine on another level (the singing Santa scared the kids though!)

I don't quite understand the previous reviews for the Imperial China as our experience was quite wondeful.

We booked the restaurant and then read these other reviews at the eleventh hour when it was too late to cancel.  This lead us to arrive at the place with no small degree of apprehension to be greeted with a splendid venue (the entrance IS stunning) and more importantly courteous staff and, quite simply, a calibre of food that can only be described as stunning.

We have eaten in many Chinatown restaurnats over the years and had entered into a general routine of just changing the venue for the sake of variety as the food always seems to be the same.  I will now gladly refrain from this philosophy as I have been competently educated that there is more to do with a duck than dunking it in boiling fat.

All our courses were prepared and presented with style, tasted supreme, were sensibly priced and (not that it matters) we even spotted Christian Slater heading upstairs to a private party.  If it's good enough for him...

A tucked away oasis of calm from the touristy bustle of Garrard Street.

Food was excellently prepared and presented, only got cold very quickly as no heater things. Was quiet when we ate so food came a little too quickly for a relaxing meal to last an evening. Would have liked a more extensive menu, bit limited but very good non the less.

The newly refurbished surroundings are excellent - very impressive and tasteful. We had an excellent meal.Recommended.
