This was the second time I had eaten at Ubon and it has definitely deteriorated in the year or so since my last visit.  As well as several a la carte dishes we tried the 70 set menu, the latter of which largely consisted of raw vegetables (why would I want to eat half a raw yellow pepper?) and not very good sashimi.  The yellowtail with jalapenos was not nearly as fresh as before and the snow crab with spicy sauce was overly sweet, glutinous and tasted as if it had been microwaved.  The best dish was tuna tataki, which did taste as if it had just been landed.   Pudding was bland - we seemed to get variations on a green tea ice cream theme.  The service was polite enough but we could not understand the waiter (remember the art gallery assistant in Beverly Hills Cop?) and gave up trying to explain that as well as the a la carte dishes we just wanted one set menu and we would all dig in.  I also find it annoying when waiters constantly fill up your glass and ask if you want another bottle before you have had a chance to drink it (but that may just be me).  On my first visit we paid 240 for 4 and it was about at the money.  This time we paid 260 for 4 and the food was very average.  The views and the initial greeting from the chefs when you walk in are the only thing to recommend it.  Maybe Nobu is better, but for that quality of food I wont be finding out any time soon.
