Food RatingHated the food! Service RatingDidn't like the service Ambience RatingLoved the ambience!

I work with Kevin Etchells, but I can't say I share his enthusiasm for the Laughing Halibut. The food has seemed to me to be somewhat undercooked and has made me feel sick. However I must say the portions are suitable for me and I'm a big cuddly boy!
Alas the waiting staff are the sort that travel on public transport, a bit lower class and probably work there since the fish covers their own smell.
I would however say that this does mean the ambience has a jolly feel that you only get with those servant types.

I understand that the Laughing Halibut open in 1982- I’ve been eating there since late 1984 so I know the place quite well. Since Kevin Etchells review, Halibut is now on the menu but appear from that little has changed, the food is still very good and the service really could not be any better. Prices remain very reasonable and portions are generous, you’re most unlike to go away dissatisfied. Lunch times are usually very busy, but this is simply a mark of their success. If you’re a visitor to London, the Halibut is worth a special visit.

This very friendly old fashioned fish & chip restaurant is always busy as it's friendly staff are as welcome to regulars (who are on first name terms) as passers by.

The decor, although recently upgraded, is functional rather than attractive. It is always clean and crowded!! Very good value for money. One point to watch - it closes at 8pm as it largely serves the local office staff.

Haddock is recommended as it is very large and beautifully cooked. Needless to say, despite it's name, halibut is not on the menu.
