A group of us went for a late lunch / dim sum on Sunday afternoon and the main dining area was healthily full even though it was close to 3pm. I was with some Chinese friends who ordered the food and the staff were very polite in explaining the amazing variety of dishes. The food was excellent. The plethora of different dishes was mind boggling and the tastes lustrous. I do not know where to start . Chicken dumplings in soup, chicken feet, spicy tripe, steamed scallops parceled in green pasta, crispy noodles with prawns - all totally awesome ! Two dishes must be singled out though ; the Roast Duck with special sauce and the fried "squid cakes" with spicy sauce; all washed down with generous amounts of Chinese tea. For desert, which was a struggle to find room for, was a type of mango blancmange. I can honestly say the the food was close to being faultless and amongst the best I've eaten in London.
Service was very polite and attentive, with the staff very willing to explain the details of the different dishes. The portions were well sized and value for money; I would have paid double for what we ate. Admittedly we went for a late lunch when the dim sum was at a cheaper price but for 15 / head it was amazing value.

Went last Friday to celebrate my b'day. We were a group of 23 and shared the Karaoke room with another table and it was THE BEST NIGHT EVER! The staff were very efficient and helpful, the food was tasty and good value, and the Karoke Host was BRILLIANT. He entertained us well with his singing skills and humour. Can't wait to go back and do it all again!

By far the best Dim Sum i have ever eaten - and at 1.60 a dish on Saturday afternoons between 3 and 5, how could you go wrong!

Their specialist dim sum chef from Hong Kong is certainly worth his weight in gold. I reccomend the waffle wrapped prawns, and pork and crab dumplings to name just two. It's all fantastic.

The service can be a little cold at times, but this adds to the overall authenticity of the place. And if you happen to get a glance of the esteemed boss of the place (whom we shall call Shanghai Rose) in all her lime green, false nail glory, you won't be disappointed.

The old pie and mash store has come a long way, and I'd come a long long way to eat at Shanghai. But lucky for me, i live just up the road.

excellent dim sum and between 3-5pm the dim sum is really cheap! the portions are generous and the food very tasty. excellent value for money if you want a late lunch/ early dinner. The old pie and mash shop has a cafe style front, with nicer tables at the back.

Great dim sum - they were awaiting the imminent arrival of a new dim sum chef from Hong Kong when I was last there - if he has finally turned up I expect it has got even better.

It's in an old pie and mash shop, and the tiled front area with booths is the coolest - much more fun than the back room, which is where they put larger parties.
