Disappointed overall, won't be going back. Nothing outstanding to common on, food "OK", everything "just OK". Failed to inspire in every department. Bit boring.

Went to Zafferanos on Aug 7 '06. This is NOT a Michelin star restaurant in our opinion, at least not as compared to other Michelin restaurants we've eaten at in the past few years (probably 6 or 8 now). We each had 3 courses plus desert.

Regarding the food, at any other Michelin we've eaten at, we've always had an "a-ha" experience for several of the dishes served. You know - that moment when you realize that what you've just tried is really something special put together by a real pro. Not so for us at Zafferanos. Food was good, but not great and certainly not good enough to justify prices. Simply stated, they have a higher opinion of their food than we did.

Re. service, based on our appetizers and mains, we ordered a bottle of white wine initially, & at the same time a bottle of red to be served with our mains. They forgot the red. When the mains were served w/out the wine, we had to ask about it. After a small conference they had to ask us to remind them what we ordered. OK, this wasn't the end of the world, but it's not Michelin quality service either and that's part of what you go to these places for. Otherwise, service was adequate but not as attentive as we seen in other Michelins.

Re. ambiance, we were seated at a two person table in the center of the room. After we arrived, two business men were seated at a two person table so close to us that we hardly missed a bit of the sales pitch and related responses. The decor was pretty basic, but OK. Frankly, it's not the decor we go to a Michelin restaurant for anyway.

Our recommendation would be to skip Zafferanos and walk a few blocks to the Capital Hotel for a great meal with impeccable service. We've eaten there twice and it was brilliant each time. The degustation menu with matching wines is a superb, albeit pricey, culinary experience.

Well, toke me some time to get a table but the experience was perfect.
We had a great spaghetti with lobster and tagliolini with crab followed by a veal that surly must be the best I ever eaten.
Great wine list.
