In the words of Michael Sophocles off the Apprentice: These people are dum-dums.
1outof10! Are you sure you weren't imagining the whole thing? Do you need a little lie down?
Pepper Tree is ace. The staff have always been friendly and attentive when i've been there, and I've been there a lot.
The food never fails to captivate neither.
"Oh, it's not true Thai, I am a connosseur and must be pampered and coddled like a spoilt gastro infant".
Wake up and smell the Pepper Tree curry, i have it nearly every time and it never fails to impress with its fresh ingredients and life-affirming tang.
sure it has a busy canteen feel, what's not to like.
"Oh no, I'd rather sit in a stiff backed chair while muzak is pumped through the sound system and candles are gently wafted past me" - dum-dums.
The ambience of Pepper Tree is busy and fun, not overpriced and glum like so many other places.
It's an oasis in Clapham.
i would heartily reccoment the Pepper Tree and I was born and raised in Thailand.

Here's the deal - most starters are 2.95. Most noodle dishes about 4.50, most curries about 3.50 (from memory), rice at 1.50 - which is why it's a fast moving place.

Chicken satay and dim sum are my favourite starters (good satay sauce an excellent gingery sauce i can't define with the latter) and i'm quite partial to either the red prawn curry or the chicken with basil and chilli. Quality is not compromised for price.

If you're down this way, join the queue.

Fast, fun and furious. Excellent. Incredibly busy. God knows how they get the food out so fast. Friendly staff. Great buzz. They queue every night, but its worth it.

Cheap but tasty eats aplenty here - the trouble is that the staff want you in and out quickly so don't expect to be the centre of their attention... Seating will remind you of your school days - long benches and tables - which are wide enough to take plenty of plates but you'll have to shout to make yourself heard. Couples looking for a romantic soiree are advised to look elsewhere, up-for-it parties are advised to endure the wait and soak up the atmosphere before tucking into decent curries and noodle dishes.

Quite simply the most authentic and tasty Thai food this side of the river. Wipes the floor with Tiger Lil's next door, and it is much cheaper. There is no restaurant to touch it in Clapham.
